Calendar Comments

Great Job SDHSRA members!!  Calendar sales went well again this past year and we are looking at the beginning of a new year of sales.  The changes in the program are going well.  The Calendar Deadline will again be March 1^st.  This deadline is for 6 calendars to be sold, returned or paid for.  Last year we required that you return your extra calendars by March 1^st.  Everything is due March 1^st – sales and returns.  When you receive your calendars, keep in mind the criteria.  If you check out 7 calendars, you sell 5 of them, you must return 2 or you will have to pay for them to be able to rodeo.

The South Dakota Rodeo Calendar is a record of the High School Rodeo season.  There are pictures of the Regional Teams, the National Team, Saddle winners with their saddle sponsor, Calendar Coat winners, persons of the year and each event and National winner.  You get the fastest time, the best score, State Finals Highlights, State Directors, Student Officers and other information about the organization and rodeo.  AND you have chance to win $40 or $200 or $1000 in the raffle drawing.

Each year at the Annual meeting the Calendar Committee sets the amount to be sold for each prize.  The calendar award structure will be sent out after the annual meeting in your newsletter.  The Directors support the calendar sales as a SDHSRA Fundraiser.  The fundraiser was started a number of years ago to help send the National Qualifiers to the Finals.  A dollar amount is given to each member to be used to attend the National Finals.  The committee felt we needed to reward the members that did not qualify for the Nationals (some members do), but was committed to selling calendars.  As a member of the association you have the opportunity to earn awards.  You can earn a T-shirt, coat, sweatshirt, scholarships, buckles, and memberships all while helping to raise money to support the National Team.  Did you know that you can earn your membership dues by selling calendars?  If you sell 50 calendars by January 1, you earn that years membership, or if you sell 50 by the March 1^st deadline, you will receive next years membership paid.  That is a $128 award.

When selling your calendars this fall, the best approach is to ask if they would like to donate to South Dakota High School Rodeo.  With their $20 donation they get a calendar with highlights of the rodeo season and a chance to win money.  Always thank them for their donation.  Calendars sell for $20.  The member collects the money and fills out the stub legibly, then mails the money and stub to the Calendar Person.  Make sure your name is on the stub as the seller.  This is how you get credit for your sales.  Mail your stubs and money in regularly.  This is important because you want the person’s name in for the drawing as soon as possible.

When you check out calendars from the contact person, make sure you have the amount of calendars you want to sell.  You can check out 10 calendars at a time.  But remember, you sell them, return them or you pay for them.  It might be better to take a few, sell them, send the stubs in and then get more calendars.  The list of Calendar Contact persons is on the website.  If there is no one close to your location, you can contact Donna Curr directly and arrangements will be made to get calendars out to you.

The Calendar Fundraising Project has grown significantly over the years.  That is in part to the dedication of members getting out and selling calendars.  Selling the calendar promotes the sport of High School Rodeo.  The more calendars hanging out there in homes and businesses, the more people see them.  It is a great sport with great kids.  Thanks for all your hard work.

SDHSRA CALENDAR PROGRAM POLICY

1. ALL SDHSRA MEMBERS MUST SELL 6 SDHSRA CALENDARS BY MARCH 1STOF THE CURRENT YEAR. THE MONEY AND STUBS MUST BE TURNED IN TO THE CALENDAR PERSON(POSTMARKED) ON OR BEFORE MARCH 1ST.  ALL SDHSRA MEMBERS MUST ALSO RETURN ANY UNSOLD CALENDARS BY MARCH 1ST OR THEY WILL NOT BE ELIGIBLE TO RODEO.
2. MARCH 1ST IS THE DEADLINE FOR ALL AWARDS.
3. ALL MEMBERS WHO HAVE NOT SOLD THE 6 CALENDARS BY MARCH 1ST AND HAVE NOT RETURNED ANY UNSOLD CALENDARS BY MARCH 1ST WILL BE PLACED ON AN INACTIVE LIST AND WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN ANY PRACTICE, REGIONAL, OR STATE FINALS RODEO IN SOUTH DAKOTA FOR THE CURRENT YEAR.
4. SCHOLARSHIP DEADLINE:  MEMBER MUST ATTEND COLLEGE ONE YEAR AFTER HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION.  SCHOLARSHIP IS AWARDED THE THIRD SEMESTER OF COLLEGE. IF MEMBER ATTENDS A TRADE SCHOOL, THEY MAY RECEIVE THE SCHOLARSHIP THE FIRST SEMESTER OF SCHOOL. Expire 1 year from second semester.
5. IT IS THE MEMBER’S RESPONSIBILITY TO FILL OUT THE LETTER AND RETURN IT TO THE STATE SECRETARY FOR THE SCHOLARSHIP AWARD.
6. PRIZES, AWARDS AND REQUIREMENTS MAY BE CHANGED AS POLICY IS REVISED.
